A QUEEN'S SILVER WEDDING, STOCKHOLM

Silvia Sommerlath met Crown Prince Carl Gustaf of Sweden at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, where she was working as a hostess. They married in Stockholm Cathedral on 19 June 1976. The evening before, at a televised gala at the Royal Swedish Opera, ABBA performed Dancing Queen live for the first time in honour of the bride. For the wedding she wore the Cameo Tiara, a pearl and cameo diadem made for Empress Josephine. On their silver wedding in June 2001, the Swedish Parliament and government gave the couple five silver gulls by the silversmith Theresia Hvorslev, one for each member of the family.
