Each one is wired by hand onto a little tree set in a white ceramic bowl with white pebbles, black on white like the board itself, that you can personalize with a name, a club name or a few words for someone who always plans three moves ahead.

Obsidian is natural volcanic glass. In crystal tradition it is a stone of protection, focus and clear thinking, and it is often linked with the sign of Aries. Its deep black is perfect for Halloween, on a mantel among the candles and pumpkins.

THE GLASS OF MILOS

Obsidian forms when lava cools so quickly that it turns to glass, and its sharp edges made it one of the most prized stones of the Stone Age. In Franchthi Cave, in southern Greece, archaeologists found obsidian from the island of Milos in layers about 11,000 years old. To bring it home, people had to cross open sea, which makes it some of the earliest evidence of seafaring in the Mediterranean.
