NAMED BY CHANCE
Aventurine is named after a glass. In Murano, Venice, glassmakers learned to make a glass glittering with tiny copper crystals, called avventurina, from the Italian a ventura, by chance. A popular story says a workman spilled copper filings into molten glass by accident; what is documented is that the recipe was so unpredictable that a good batch felt like luck. The name later passed to the natural stone, a quartz whose soft green shimmer comes from tiny flakes of green mica called fuchsite.
