Pink and Green Tourmaline Tree of Life – Gift for a Florist, 46 Natural Tourmaline Stones, Copper, Silver or Gold Wire, Personalized Bowl

A handmade Tourmaline Tree of Life in rhubarb pink and sage green: 46 small polished natural tourmaline spheres, some the soft pink of early rhubarb stalks, some the grey green of sage leaves, a few darker like wet stems in a florist's bucket. Each one is wired by hand onto a little tree set in a white ceramic bowl with white pebbles that you can personalize with a name, a shop name or a few words for someone who works with flowers.

Tourmaline is one of the few stones that comes naturally in both pink and green, sometimes in the same crystal. In crystal tradition it is a stone of balance and gentle renewal, it is a birthstone of October, and it is often linked with the sign of Taurus. Its pinks and greens are the colours of hanami, the Japanese custom of gathering under the cherry blossom each spring.

THE ASH PULLER FROM CEYLON

In 1703 Dutch traders brought tourmaline to Europe from Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, and its name comes from the Sinhalese word turmali. The Dutch soon noticed something strange: a warm tourmaline crystal would pull light ash towards it, then push it away again. They nicknamed it aschentrekker, ash puller, and it was said to draw the ash out of their pipes. Scientists later explained the trick. When a tourmaline crystal is heated or cooled, one end becomes positively charged and the other negatively charged, an effect now called pyroelectricity, and tourmaline is the mineral in which it was first observed.
