Golden Pearl Tree – Handmade Anniversary & Wedding Gift with Freshwater Pearls

Fifty years of marriage is the golden wedding anniversary, and this large golden Tree of Life is made to mark it. We shape it entirely by hand from gold-plated copper wire and set 280 natural freshwater pearls of 6 mm along its branches, so the crown glows with soft white light. The roots hold white stones in a glossy white ceramic bowl, which you can keep plain or personalize with names, a date or a photo. It is a gift the children and grandchildren can give together.

GOLD OVER COPPER, BIRMINGHAM 1840

In 1840 the cousins George Richards Elkington and Henry Elkington of Birmingham patented a way to plate metal with silver and gold using electricity. The key cyanide solution is usually credited to John Wright, a local surgeon, whose idea they bought. Their workshops went on to supply plated tableware across Victorian Britain. The gold surface over a copper core on this tree comes from the same family of techniques.
