Made for two people who have shared half a century, this golden Tree of Life holds 88 natural freshwater pearls, each about 8 mm across, spread over 22 slender branches. We shape the whole tree by hand from 13 m (43 ft) of gold-plated copper wire. At the base, the roots grip decorative stones in a small ceramic bowl. Gold marks the 50th wedding anniversary and pearl the 30th, so one tree celebrates both. Pearl is also the birthstone of June.

A GOLDEN ROSE AVENUE AT CHARTWELL
For the golden wedding of Winston and Clementine Churchill in September 1958, their children gave them an avenue of golden roses at Chartwell, their home in Kent: 29 varieties, from creamy yellow to delicate orange. Roses cannot be planted to order, so on the day they handed over a vellum-bound book with 29 watercolours of the roses by artist friends. The Golden Rose Avenue still blooms at Chartwell today.
