Denim Blue Sodalite Tree of Life – Gift for a Sailor, 46 Natural Sodalite Stones, Copper, Silver or Gold Wire, Personalized Bowl

A handmade Sodalite Tree of Life in denim and sea salt: 46 small polished natural sodalite spheres in deep navy and faded denim blue, each one streaked with white veins like dried salt on a sailor's jacket after a day at sea. Each one is wired by hand onto a little tree set in a white ceramic bowl with white pebbles that you can personalize with a name, the name of a boat or a few words for a father who loves the water.

Sodalite takes its name from its sodium content. In crystal tradition it is a stone of calm, clear thinking and honest words, and it is often linked with the sign of Virgo. Its navy blue makes it an easy Father's Day gift for a dad who sails, fishes or simply misses the sea.

A STONE CAPTURED AT SEA

Sodalite was nearly lost at sea. In the early 1800s the mineralogist Karl Ludwig Giesecke spent years collecting rocks in Greenland and sent crates of specimens home by ship. During the Napoleonic Wars a Danish ship carrying one of his collections to Copenhagen was captured as a prize of war, and the unlabelled crates ended up in the port of Leith, in Scotland, where the Edinburgh mineral collector Thomas Allan recognised them as Greenland stones and bought them. Among them was an unknown blue stone, and in 1811 the chemist Thomas Thomson analysed Allan's specimens, found them rich in sodium and named the mineral sodalite.
