A handmade Citrine Tree of Life in the colour of wildflower honey: 46 small polished citrine spheres in warm golden yellows, some pale like fresh spring honey, some deeper like late summer honey held up to the light. Each one is wired by hand onto a little tree set in a white ceramic bowl with white pebbles that you can personalize with a name, the name of an apiary or a few words for someone who keeps bees.

Citrine is a yellow to golden form of quartz, and its name comes from the French citron, lemon. In crystal tradition it is a stone of warmth, plenty and good cheer, it is a birthstone of November, and it is often linked with the sign of Taurus. On 20 May the United Nations marks World Bee Day, a good day to give something honey gold.

THE BEEKEEPER BEHIND WORLD BEE DAY

World Bee Day falls on 20 May because of one man. Anton Janša was born into a family of beekeepers in the village of Breznica, in what is now Slovenia, and was baptised on 20 May 1734. He trained as a painter in Vienna, but bees were his real calling, and he became a teacher of beekeeping at the Habsburg court in Vienna, where he taught modern methods of keeping bees. In 1771 he published his Discussion on Bee-keeping. More than two centuries later Slovenia proposed a day for bees on his birthday, and on 20 December 2017 the United Nations General Assembly adopted it unanimously. The first World Bee Day was held on 20 May 2018 in his home village.
