We shape it entirely by hand from silver-plated copper wire and set 280 natural white freshwater pearls of 6 mm along its branches, so the whole crown shines in soft, cool white. The roots hold white stones in a glossy white ceramic bowl, which you can keep plain or personalize with names, a date or a photo.

Pearls have long stood for purity, loyalty and calm, a love that grows layer by layer over the years, just as a pearl does. Pearl is also the birthstone of June and a traditional stone for Gemini and Cancer, which makes this tree a thoughtful birthday gift as well.

THE FIRST CULTURED PEARLS, JAPAN 1893

For centuries every pearl was a lucky find, and overfishing had almost emptied Japan's oyster beds. Kokichi Mikimoto, the son of a restaurant owner from Toba, set out to help nature along. After a red tide killed most of his oysters in 1892, he opened the survivors on Ojima Island on 11 July 1893 and found five half-round pearls growing inside: the first successfully cultured pearls. He received his patent in 1896 and went on to be known as the Pearl King.
