Each one is wired by hand onto a little tree set in a white ceramic bowl with white pebbles that you can personalize with a name, your cat's name or a few words of your own.

Tiger's eye is a form of quartz, and its silky golden shimmer comes from fine mineral fibres held inside the stone. In crystal tradition it is a stone of courage, focus and steady confidence, and it is often linked with the sign of Libra. On 8 August cat lovers around the world mark International Cat Day, a good day to give something with a cat's eye shine.

THE STONE THAT LOOKS BACK LIKE A CAT

The moving line of light in tiger's eye has its own name: chatoyancy, from the French chat, cat, because it looks like the bright slit of light in a cat's eye. It comes from millions of very fine mineral fibres lying side by side inside the quartz. Each fibre catches the light, and together they throw one shining band across the stone that slides from side to side as it moves. The fibres were once a blue mineral called crocidolite, and as the iron in them oxidised over time they turned the golden brown we know. Most of the world's tiger's eye comes from the banded iron rocks of the Northern Cape in South Africa, around Griquatown and Prieska, where the German naturalist Martin Lichtenstein first collected it along the Orange River in 1803.
