Large Hemimorphite Tree of Life – Gift for a Mineral Collector, 280 Natural Hemimorphite Stones, Copper, Silver or Gold Wire, Personalized Bowl

A large handmade Hemimorphite Tree of Life in mint green: 280 polished natural hemimorphite spheres in soft mint and sea foam green with paler cloudy streaks, cool and fresh like a glass of mint tea. Each one is wired by hand onto a full, generous tree set in a white ceramic bowl that you can personalize with a name, a favourite mineral or a few words for someone with a pocket full of rocks.

In crystal tradition hemimorphite is a stone of calm, curiosity and clear communication, and it is often linked with the sign of Aquarius, the inventor and the scientist of the zodiac. It is a thoughtful gift for a mineral collector, a geology student or a science teacher.

THE STONE THAT SPLIT CALAMINE IN TWO

For centuries miners and brass makers used the word calamine for several pale zinc ores that looked alike, yet some gave plenty of zinc and others very little. In November 1802 the English chemist James Smithson read a paper to the Royal Society in London, published in 1803, showing that calamine was not one mineral but several. The good ore, a zinc carbonate, was later named smithsonite in his honour; the zinc silicate became known as hemimorphite. Smithson later left his fortune to the United States to found the Smithsonian Institution.
