Green Tea Prehnite Tree of Life – Gift for a Tea Lover, 46 Natural Prehnite Stones, Copper, Silver or Gold Wire, Personalized Bowl

A handmade Prehnite Tree of Life in the colour of green tea: 46 small polished natural prehnite spheres in the soft yellow green of a freshly poured cup, some paler like a light sencha, some deeper, closer to matcha. Each one is wired by hand onto a little tree set in a white ceramic bowl with white pebbles, a bit like a white teacup, that you can personalize with a name, a date or a favourite line about tea.

Prehnite often grows in the cavities of basalt, the dark rock left by ancient lava flows, and a little iron in the mineral helps give it its tea green tone. In crystal tradition it is a stone of calm and of slowing down, which suits anyone who waits patiently for the tea to steep. On 21 May the United Nations marks International Tea Day, a good day to give something tea green.

THE FIRST STONE NAMED AFTER A PERSON

Prehnite came to Europe from the Cape of Good Hope. Hendrik van Prehn, a Dutch colonel who commanded the garrison there and later served briefly as governor of the Cape Colony, was also a keen mineral collector, and in the 1770s he found the pale green stone and brought the first specimens back with him. In 1788 the Saxon mineralogist Abraham Gottlieb Werner named it prehnite in his honour, and the same year Martin Heinrich Klaproth published its first chemical analysis in Berlin. It is often called the first mineral ever named after a person, a claim mineralogists still debate, but the custom it started has given us hundreds of stones named after people since.
