Each one is wired by hand onto a little tree set in a white ceramic bowl with white pebbles that you can personalize with a name, a book title or a favourite line for someone who is always writing.

In crystal tradition howlite is a stone of calm, patience and clear thoughts, and it is often linked with the sign of Gemini, the storyteller of the zodiac. On 21 March the world marks World Poetry Day, a good day to give a writer something quiet and white for the desk.

THE NUISANCE IN THE GYPSUM

In the 1860s the gypsum quarries around Windsor, in Nova Scotia, kept turning up hard white nodules that the miners found a nuisance. They showed them to Henry How, professor of chemistry and natural history at King's College in Windsor, who analysed them and in 1868 described a new mineral, a rare silicate borate he called silicoborocalcite. Shortly afterwards the American mineralogist James Dwight Dana renamed it howlite in his honour.

WHO IS IT FOR?

A gift for a writer, an author or a poet

A World Poetry Day gift or a gift for a new book

A Gemini birthday gift

A calm white accent for a writing desk, bookshelf or bedside table

MATERIALS

46 natural howlite spheres, polished and wired by hand one by one

Non-tarnish wire in the finish you choose at checkout: pure copper, silver-plated copper or gold-plated copper, so the colour keeps its shine for years

White ceramic bowl with white pebbles, plain or personalized with your text or text and photo

Every tree is unique: each howlite sphere has its own pattern of grey veins on white

SIZE

Height: about 24 cm (9.5 in)

Width: about 19 cm (7.5 in)

Depth: about 14 cm (5.5 in)

Bowl diameter: about 8 cm (3 in)

Weight: about 0.7 kg (1.5 lb)

PERSONALIZATION STYLES

Choose the personalization style from the options above.
